Payments

Payments in Australia can be made in cash or by credit or debit card in Australian Dollars. There are many money change offices in Cairns as well as the FX services offered by major banks.

Visa and Mastercard are widely accepts. Amex and Diners less so. Japanese and Chinese cards along with Alipay etc. may be accepted in some tourist outlets.

Many retailers charge a small percentage as a credit card fee. This is unfortunately legal in Australia. To avoid the fee pay in cash and don’t hesitate to ask for a cash discount.
